In any auto school class, you learn that the first thing to do when getting into the car is to adjust seat and mirrors. It sounds simple, does not it? But do you know how to regulate the seat correctly? Do you know the order to follow?

More than comfort, this ritual involves the health and safety of vehicle occupants. With the seat properly adjusted, the driver has the necessary strength in the arms to quickly divert a hole or avoid a hit, the guarantee that the seat belt will work effectively in a collision and an additional aid in reducing the fatigue of the Body, muscle aches, and even spinal diseases.

Experts from the Brazilian Association of Traffic Medicine explain that the incorrect position of the driver, coupled with the vibration of the vehicle, causes intense muscular fatigue that can lead to severe vertebral injuries. “The driver must find his comfort zone, adjusting the seat to the pedals, which are fixed, so that they reach them effortlessly, and then at the wheel,” says ergonomic consultant João Bezerra de Meneses. “The correct thing is not to touch neither the calf nor the back of the knee on the bench.”

It is vital to remember that no just one ideal position. Sometimes you get the same effect with different combinations of settings. In fact, changing the posture is necessary for a long time at the wheel, so that the area of ​​effort is continuously changed, without overloading a particular part of the body. Seat
